I am a multimedia artist who focuses on expressive realism
I took a winding path to find a home in visual arts. I was born in England, and spent my early adult life working as a musician, which took me all over the world and landed me in Seattle, WA. From there I found creativity in software for some time until, like many, I found a need for a new outlet during the isolation of the pandemic.
I started as simply as I could; with graphite and a piece of paper, and started to draw. I quickly found that I was drawn to capturing people and animals in portraits. These subjects have become central to both my original work as well as commissioned pieces.
I began to explore with charcoal, and became enamored with its’ malleability as well as depth of tonal range. The speed with with I could work with charcoal enabled me to explore a greater range of subjects, including figure studies, landscapes, and surrealism.
Most recently I have begun to work with oil paints, which has allowed me to explore the nuance of hue and saturation when capturing the truth of a subject. I continue to find inspiration in discovering people through portraiture as well as combining elements of the natural world with expressive narratives.
